At BRITE, we focus on advanced combustion technologies that show great potential to comply with the fuel flexibility expected in the future energy scenario, without compromising energy efficiency and ensuring the control of pollutant emissions. In particular, we focus on MILD/flameless combustion, using both air and oxygen as oxidiser, with a coupled experimental-numerical approach, tied together by validation and uncertainty quantification. In the last few years, we have developed combustion models particularly adapted to treat the complex turbulence-chemistry interactions taking place in MILD combustion and we have demonstrated the feasibility of several non-conventional fuels in such a combustion regime.
