Ella Barakhovskaia
Biography
In 2023, Ella obtained a joint PhD in Engineering Sciences and Technology between the University Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Novosibirsk State University (NSU), under the supervision of Dr. Carlo Saverio Iorio (CREST ULB), Prof. Igor Marchuk (NSU), and Prof. Patrick Hendrick (ATM ULB). Her research focused on modeling thermophysics and hydrodynamics problems. She also designed and conducted heat transfer experiments on various nanocoatings, including unique experiences in Zero-Gravity Flights, to address the challenges of developing efficient two-phase systems for thermal stabilization in heat-generating equipment for microgravity and variable gravity conditions.
In parallel with her Master's and doctoral studies, Ella contributed to heat transfer intensification research at the Kutateladze Institute of Thermophysics in Novosibirsk, Russia.
In 2025, Ella joined the FLOW and BRITE groups at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), where she continues to explore the challenges associated with space. Her current research focuses on the actual topic of space debris atmospheric re-entry. She is deeply interested in the intersection of applied mathematics and the study of physical systems and phenomena in extreme environments.
