Wind energy
BRITE has been active in wind energy research for more than a decade. We combine wind tunnel testing and numerical simulations to study many aspects of wind turbines, from fundamental research (e.g. on predicting the lift force of pitching aerofoils) to applied research (e.g. on wind resource assessment and siting studies for wind turbines in Brussels and Belgium). Other topics centre on the effect of turbulence and atmospheric conditions on wind turbines, the generation of surrogate wind speed time series, blade-tower interaction, nacelle anemometry, and the performance and wake development of paired vertical-axis wind turbines.
